March 2011 - We have secured funding from various sources to hold a workshop titled Asia's Civil Spheres: New Media, Urban Public Space, Social Movements. Co-organizer Rita Padawangi and I aspire to gather scholars interested in the nexus of issues suggested by the title. The Call for Papers will be online very soon.
March 2011 - The serious deterioration of the human rights situation in China compels me to put on hold my research on Beijing-based (environmental) activisms so as to not endanger my research participants. I have hence broadened the range of cultural and political activities I will be looking at in my research (going beyond the former, self-imposed focus on environmental issues).
July 2010 - I have returned from a preliminary field-trip to Beijing and am now hiding in my office (you can find me here) where I analyse my findings, write about things, and plan next steps. (Luckily, writing helps me think.)
